Dr. Tamás Kurics is a Principal Data Scientist at Sophos. He graduated with a master’s degree in applied mathematics and started a research career in the fields of theoretical numerical analysis, mathematical modeling, and scientific computing at Eötvös Loránd University, Hungary. He obtained his PhD degree in 2011 and was appointed to assistant professor in the same year. He has spent another four years at research institutes and universities and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at ETH Zürich. Since 2015 he has been working in the industry as a data scientist.
Before joining Sophos AI, he has been working as a data scientist and software engineer for various small to mid-size companies, mostly in product development. His interests are end-to-end algorithm development and machine learning engineering, the applications of deep learning methods in various fields, machine learning in cybersecurity and life sciences, and functional programming languages. In his free time, he enjoys participating in programming competitions and studying the history of programming languages.
